When i was Bosun with OSA. We used pelican hook's and carpenter's stoppers, in the 70s. Carpenter stopper were OK as they kept the wire in the centre of the deck, as in this photo.You had use a sledge hammer to release it.That me taking a swing with the hammer.Thanks to Peter Boyce for image and text
